2012 Citroen C5

2012 Citroen C5 Review and Informations

Recognised as one of the best-styled models in its segment, the Citroen C5 has been subtly upgraded. The changes enable the car to keep all its character while making it immediately visible and recognisable out on the road.

LEDs have been added under the headlamps. Active day and night and combined with a light guide, they subtly strengthen the car’s light signature. The headlamps retain all the existing functions, including xenon dual-function directional lights and corner lights.

The rear lights get a new ‘Dark Crystal’ treatment with clear glass in the central section.
ENGINE
A new engine is making its appearance in the Citroen C5 range, a new-generation 2.2 litre powerplant bringing across-the-board progress on power, torque, silence, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Upgrades made to this engine are in line with those already used on other diesel units in the range (4- cylinder, 1.6 l and 2 l, 3 l V6). They chiefly concern the common rail system, now third-generation, with maximum injection pressure up to 2,000 bars, combustion chambers retaining ECCS (Extreme Conventional Combustion System) technology, and a lower compression ratio (16 to 1), for enhanced operating silence and lower emissions. Engine feed is still via two turbochargers, whose parallel sequential set-up provides plentiful torque from the lowest engine speeds.

The Citroen C5 HDi 200 DPFS develops 150 kW EEC (204 bhp) at 3,500 rpm and maximum torque of 450 Nm to 2,000 rpm. Mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the engine provides remarkable performance, with a top speed of 230 km/h (225 km/h for the Tourer), 0-100 km/h in 8.3 seconds (8.6) and combined-cycle consumption of 5.9 l/100 km (6.1). The saloon emits 155 g/km of CO2 and the Tourer 159 g/km. Like the Citroen C5 HDi 240 DPFS, the new version stands out visually with its chrome-finished double tailpipe.

Citroen C5 VTi 120 WITH EGS6, THE NEW PETROL POWERPLANT The Citroen C5 range is now available with a new petrol engine mated to the 6-speed electronic gearbox system (EGS6). Developed with the BMW Group, the 1.6 litre powerplant develops 88 kW EEC (120 bhp). Mated to the EGS6 gearbox, with wheel-mounted paddles, combined-cycle fuel consumption is 6.2 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are 144 g/km.

e-HDi MICRO-HYBRID TECHNOLOGY FOR SPECTACULAR RESULTS

The Citroen C5 inaugurates the new micro-hybrid technology that will be widely applied to numerous models in the range. Initially it will be available with the HDi 110 DPFS version equipped with the EGS6 electronic gearbox system with steering-wheel paddles and low rolling resistance tyres.

The micro-hybrid technology consists of a second-generation Stop & Start system, which retains an alternator-starter, or reversible alternator, boasting enhanced performance. Power has been increased on the first-generation system, by 70% to 2.2 kW, and now includes a power electronics unit. Fitting the system on a diesel engine constitutes a world first for a passenger car.

Start-ups take just 400 ms, half the time of a starter, and remain completely transparent for users. Noise is eliminated through the use of a timing belt rather than the gears of a conventional starter. Vibrations have been eliminated – at start-up and cut-out – by using a twin-mass engine flywheel and a sealed air regulator and by attaining slowdown speed faster.

An onboard network assistance system, called e-booster, boosts the electricity supply of the alternator using super-output, temporarily adding to the power of the battery. This set-up has several advantages, namely:

•an increase in transmitted energy, improving start-up capacity for temperatures of as low as -5°C;
•onboard network support via complete transparency on the energy required by the alternator, to maintain the performance of the lights, windscreen wipers and radio;
•a function that optimises battery charge and super-output through energy recovery when drivers take their foot off the pedal or slow down, with a slight increase in the engine brake.
The Citroen C5 e-HDi is also equipped with an optimised watertight battery sized for up to 600,000 restart cycles. Engine suspension has been enhanced on the Citroen C5 for increased comfort during stops and re-starts.

The new equipment considerably reduces the Citroen C5′s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Over a combined cycle, the diesel model consumes 4.6 l/100 km and emits 120 g/km of CO2. In an urban cycle, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are up to 15% lower.
SAFETY
Citroen eTouch is now available on the C5. Comprising a package of services including the emergency and assistance calls, Citroen eTouch also proposes a virtual maintenance manual and an Eco-Driving service accessible via the MyCitroen personal area on the web. For calls, Citroen eTouch works completely independently. The system is equipped with a GPS module and a SIM card, with no need for a call plan and unlimited over time. The vehicles features two buttons, "SOS" for emergency calls (the call is also triggered automatically in the event of impact) and "Double Chevron" for assistance calls. The emergency call gets emergency services to customers faster, for accident victims and bystanders alike. The two services are free and available 24-7.

2012 Citroen DS3

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2012 Citroen DS3
Citroën is unleashing a hot new DS3 at the Geneva Motor Show – the limited edition 200hp DS3 Racing.

Developed by Citroën Racing – the winning team behind five WRC manufacturer’s titles and six driver’s titles for Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena – DS3 Racing is a special edition with a 100% sporting pedigree. Planned for the second half of 2010, the exclusive DS3 Racing will be limited to just 1000 production units.

With integrated carbon-trimmed components and specialist motorsports equipment, DS3 Racing’s tuned and turbo-charged 1.6-litre THP 150 engine develops 200hp – a power increase of almost 30% over the standard unit – with a torque increase of 15% from 240Nm to 275Nm.

To achieve the additional power output, from 156hp to 200hp, Citroën Racing’s engineers modified and optimised the powertrain components, tuned the performance of the turbo and adjusted the mapping of the engine control unit. A special tail pipe and muffler were also added.

Allowing DS3 Racing to stick to the road, the car has undergone some significant sporting enhancements. The steering has been made even more precise, with the control system modified for the new tyres. The fitment of stiffer suspension springs, adapted front and rear shock absorbers (to handle the increased power), and the widening of the front and rear tracks by 30mm – plus lowering the car by 15mm – all dramatically change the driving dynamics.
INTERIOR
Citroën DS3 is available with Citroën's latest in-car technology such as the integrated MyWay satellite navigation unit which incorporates a sophisticated audio and multimedia system, wide format colour screen, MP3 and WMA compatible CD player and Bluetooth® hands free kit. Providing exceptional acoustic clarity, the audio system benefits from a third speaker in the middle of the upper dashboard as well as an amplified subwoofer mounted in the boot for a broader frequency response and immersive audio experience.

A convenient range of driving aids will also be available including cruise control with speed limiter, and an intelligent indicator which recommends the optimal moment for gear changes allowing drivers to improve their fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.
EXTERIOR

In addition to the distinctive, radical styling of DS3, the new Racing edition inherits Citroën Racing’s expertise in motorsport design to provide advanced technological and stylistic sporting prowess.

The preview model, to be presented at Geneva, is in a special livery and features sporty ‘DS3′, ‘Citroën Racing’ and chequered flag graphics on the roof, in front of the rear wheel arches, under the side mirrors and next to the fuel cap.

Measuring 3.94m long, DS3 Racing’s dark grey body is tastefully contrasted with a vibrant, bright orange-coloured roof, side mirrors and brake callipers. The alloy wheels and front grille surround – with integrated chevrons – are finished in orange chrome.

A sporty carbon finish is used around the front bumper, lower body trim and wing extensions, whilst large 18″ alloy wheels, chrome door handles and even a chrome-finished exhaust complete the dynamic styling.
ENGINE
Proving that environmentally-considerate motoring doesn't mean having to compromise on style or performance, the Citroën DS3 will be available with a choice of five CO2-efficient Euro V power plants consisting of two HDi diesel units and three BMW co-developed petrol engines, combining refined performance with strong fuel economy.

The two HDi diesels - a 90bhp and an 110bhp - are fitted with Citroën's lauded DPFS (Diesel Particulate Filter System) and the three petrol engines - VTi 95, VTi 120 and THP 150 - are fitted with either 5 or 6 speed manual gearboxes.

Fully in line with Citroën's commitment to producing cleaner, more environmentally considerate vehicles, the two HDi DPFS engines will deliver ultra low CO2 emissions of just 99g/km and 115/g km, whilst the petrol units will emit between 136/km and 160g/km.
SAFETY

The Citroën DS3 is designed with an emphasis on robustness, strength and optimum safety to ensure protection for all occupants. For reassuring control in any driving situation Citroën DS3 models will feature as standard ESP, ABS with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and EBA (Emergency Brake Assist) as well as six airbags and Isofix anchor points on the rear side seats.

2011 Chrysler 300C

Specifications prices Modifications and Image2011 Chrysler 300
Although we may rhapsodize over the beauty of our favorite cars, precious few of them could be considered art. Whistler didn’t refresh his painting of his mom four years after completing it. Nor did he completely redo it every seven years for the rest of his life. And as much as the 300 might have looked like Chrysler’s chef-d’oeuvre in 2004, the company couldn’t just sit back and let it be. For 2011, the 300 receives a refresh rather than the redesign for which it is due, but the update addresses the most important things.
Much of the money allotted to the 300 rework went to the interior. Like the rejuvenated interiors in other recent Chrysler redesigns, virtually everything you can see or touch inside is improved by an order of magnitude: the dash, the center stack, the steering wheel, the door panels and seats—the list goes on. And the materials are light-years better, too. The dash is soft, the buttons on the new steering wheel actuate with a satisfying click, and the HVAC knobs slip from detent to detent as if lubricated by a film of oil.

Nestled in that updated dash, the new tach and speedometer are stunning, highly readable, and not overly ornamental. A new touchscreen navigation/infotainment display rides atop the center stack, beneath the classy trapezoidal clock that is emerging as a signature of Chrysler interiors. The optional Garmin-based nav system’s bold colors and large graphics make it easy to use, but they lend it an almost juvenile appearance. Still, we prefer basic and useful to elegant and stupefying.
 INTERIOR
Gone is the center stack that resembled a desktop computer tower. Gone is the enormous four-spoke steering wheel removed from the U.S.S. Constitution. Gone are the Indiglo gauges and the brittle plastic switchgear. The Chrysler 300 now has a cabin that might (just might) make luxury car shoppers think twice about paying extra for a fancy badge. While the look is hardly what we'd describe as groundbreaking (or even especially interesting), it's classy enough and the controls are well laid-out. Perhaps most impressively, the materials are top-notch, with surfaces that are soft-touch and pleasantly textured. The difference is really night and day compared to last year's car.
Chrysler's new Uconnect Touch interface is standard. This 8.4-inch touchscreen controls the car's many infotainment features and is a vast improvement on the substantially smaller screen presently found in other Chrysler Group vehicles. When equipped with the optional Garmin-sourced navigation system, the 300 comes with Sirius Travel Link, a technology previously exclusive to Ford that features real-time information for traffic conditions, weather and even movie times. However, if we're to nitpick, the standard iPod interface curiously omits "Playlist" from its available menu options, which is irritating, though we're told Chrysler is considering a fix.
Rearward visibility continues to be compromised by the thick rear pillars, though on the upside, this year's more rakish windshield has improved forward visibility. Passengers should continue to find an abundance of space in all dimensions, and the trunk's volume of 16.3 cubic feet is pretty generous.
EXTERIORYou'll have to look closely at the old and new 300s to sense the subtle injections of drama that have replaced the big, almost cartoony, elements that abstracted themselves on the pre-2011 Chrysler sedan. It starts at the front: the first 300 became the "bougie Bentley" when buyers started swapping out its tall grille for synthetic Brit-looking ones. It wasn't always an improvement, but it pointed out exactly how exaggerated the 300's front end and shoulders had been drawn, intentionally.

This time Chrysler's toned most of that down. The grille's now shrunk into a softer shield. Smaller headlights wear LED eyeliner. The fenders are more rectilinear, especially on the rear where they've picked up some of the intricate stamped-in details seen on the current Ford Taurus, Buick LaCrosse, even the most recent E-Class. From dead on, the rear end's vertical-tube taillamps have never glowed as expensively. If they were any thinner, they'd strike a distinctly Caddy note. Point of taste: polished chrome 20-inch wheels hit the proper blingy note on the old car, but on this one, the more subdued 19-inchers seem more fitting.

There's more love to go around once you step inside the 300. The expensive-looking cabin wears new shapes, new trim and new materials, most of it emphatically better than ever. The cockpit doesn't look so plain anymore, with its timepiece-faced gauges, elm trim and matte-finish plastics. The big metallic ring around the LCD screen and air vents looks more like a thought balloon than a styling element, though--an unfinished idea, though well-finished. And while the textures all feel swell, the rubberized dash cap has the gummy grip that lint loves to call home.
ENGINE
Underhood, the headlining 5.7-liter Hemi is only slightly changed (it carries over with modest upgrades of 3 hp and 5 lb-ft of torque), but the new base 3.6-liter six-cylinder effectively replaces two V-6s (an anemic 2.7-liter and a more capable 3.5) and betters the old 3.5’s 250 hp by 42. (It tops the 2.7 by 114 hp.) Along with its 292 horses, the Pentastar V-6 offers 260 lb-ft of torque. Both hp and torque peak late (6350 and 4800 rpm, respectively), so downshifts are necessary for meaningful acceleration while rolling. It sounds a bit coarse at idle, but the Pentastar finds its voice as the revs—and output—climb. Although not the thrill ride of the V-8, the six is more than competent, something we could almost say about the old 3.5 but never about the 2.7.
The same five-speed automatic pulls duty behind both engines, but an eight-speed will begin to spread across the lineup later this year. Chrysler is aiming for a 30-mpg highway rating with the new transmission, which is a ZF design (the best the Pentastar manages with the old five-speed is 27 mpg). Although the five-speed automatic does allow for manual shifting, it has no dedicated manual shift gate. As in the previous-generation 300, the driver taps the lever left and right from its resting place in D to shift, but the new 300’s taller center console gets in the way—not that using the function is particularly satisfying anyhow.
 SAFETY
The all-new 2011 Chrysler 300 features more than 70 safety and security features, including standard Keyless Enter-N-Go and electronic stability control (ESC) with segment-exclusive Ready Alert Braking and Rain Brake Support safety features to improve overall vehicle handling and performance.
Chrysler brand’s signature SafetyTec Group is available on the 2011 Chrysler 300 Limited, 300C and 300C AWD models and packages many first-time-available features including adaptive-forward lighting (AFL), high-intensity discharge (HID) projector high and low-beams with automatic headlamp leveling, Forward Collision Warning (FCW) with adaptive-cruise control (ACC), Blind-spot monitoring (BSM) with Rear Cross Path (RCP) detection, ParkSense® front and rear park assist system, LED-illuminated rear fog lamps, exterior mirrors with supplemental turn signals and approach lamp (300 Limited adds HomeLink universal transceiver, rain-sensing wipers and SmartBeam® headlamps to the package group).
In addition, standard front-row reactive head restraints, standard full-length side-curtain air bags, driver’s knee bag and standard front seat-mounted side-thorax air bags offer enhanced occupant protection to passengers in the event of a collision.
